At Brickyard Hollow, we love that a trip to Biddeford can feel like two experiences at once. You can walk through a city shaped by textile history, then sit down for pizza and a pint in a downtown that feels fresh, busy, and creative. For us, breweries in Biddeford, Maine, tell a bigger story than what is on tap. They show how old mill spaces and riverfront buildings have found new life.

Our Biddeford brewpub is part of that story, too. We are proud to serve this city from within the former mill campus, right in the middle of a district where history and hospitality now share the same streets.

The Biddeford mills are not just a backdrop for downtown. They still shape how people move through the city, how buildings are reused, and how visitors understand the place. The Biddeford Mills Museum preserves that history, and its tours take guests through a cotton house, a weave shed, and underground canals once powered by the Saco River.

At one time, Biddeford’s textile mills employed as many as 12,000 people; then the industry declined and left the city with massive industrial buildings waiting for a new purpose. That history matters because the revival that people feel today came from finding new uses for spaces that were already woven into Biddeford’s identity.

When guests ask us what to do before dinner, we often point them toward the mill district first. It gives context to everything else they will see downtown. The marked mill-campus map you shared also supports treating our 180 Main Street location as part of that former mill campus, even if the original building name is still unclear.

From Mill Revival to a Downtown Worth Lingering In

Biddeford has spent the last couple of decades turning former industrial weight into downtown momentum. Heart of Biddeford launched in 2004, the same year adaptive reuse began at the North Dam Mill, and the city’s preservation-based revitalization work later earned national recognition through the 2022 Great American Main Street Award. Main Street America cited Biddeford’s vibrant small-business environment and rehabilitation work, while Governor Janet Mills pointed directly to the redevelopment of vacant mills as part of the city’s recognition.

That larger story is what makes a casual visit feel different now. You are not just grabbing a drink in an isolated entertainment district. You are walking through a downtown where old industrial buildings now support museums, apartments, hospitality spaces, creative businesses, and places to eat and drink. That blend of old brick, river views, and new energy is part of why Biddeford feels like a city you want to explore on foot instead of just passing through.

Why Breweries in Biddeford, Maine Feel Different Right Now

When people ask us what stands out about breweries in Biddeford, Maine, we usually start with the place. Several of the city’s best-known beverage stops are not simply near the mills. They are in them. That makes the brewing and distilling scene feel tied to Biddeford’s identity in a way that is easy to see as soon as you start walking downtown.

You can plan an afternoon around classic craft beer, a dedicated gluten-free taproom, a distillery stop, or a restaurant that blends beer, cocktails, and a former mill setting. For visitors, that variety is a gift. For locals, it is one of the clearest signs that Biddeford’s next chapter is being built inside spaces that once powered its first one.

Our Biddeford Brewpub Fits the City We Joined One of the Breweries in Biddeford Maine

When we opened in Biddeford, we said the city’s arts scene, historic charm, and spirited community made it a natural fit for our next chapter. We also said we wanted our location to reflect Biddeford’s energetic revival and create a welcoming space for families, neighbors, and visitors. That is still exactly how we think about it. We are here for pizza nights, community events, easy lunches, and the kind of casual dinners that help people settle into a city instead of rushing through it.

Being in the former mill campus adds another layer to that experience. We get to serve craft beer and pizza in a part of downtown where the city’s past is still visible in the buildings around us. It gives your meal a real sense of place. If you want to make us part of your own Biddeford visit, you can start with our Biddeford location page, browse all of our Locations & Menus, or check our events calendar before you head downtown.

Other Stops That Show What Is Brewing in Biddeford

If you want to understand Biddeford through its beverage scene, we are not the only stop worth knowing. Banded Brewing is located in the historic Pepperell Mill and describes itself as Biddeford’s first brewery. That makes it one of the clearest examples of how the city’s brewing culture and mill reuse overlap.

Lucky Pigeon Brewing brings something especially distinctive to the area. It calls itself Maine’s first dedicated gluten-free brewery and makes beer designed to be safe for people with gluten intolerances. That gives Biddeford a stop that feels meaningfully different from a standard taproom.

Batson River Brewing & Distilling’s Biddeford location adds another variation on the theme. It operates on the lower level of The Lincoln Hotel, which is itself a reimagined former mill. The result is a polished restaurant-and-bar experience that still feels grounded in the city’s industrial architecture.

Then there is Round Turn Distilling, which is located in a 150-year-old textile mill on the Saco River. Even though it is a distillery rather than a brewery, it belongs in the conversation because it shows how broad Biddeford’s drinks scene has become.

A Simple Biddeford Afternoon: History, Pints, and Pizza

One of our favorite ways to spend time in town is to start with the mills, not the menu. Book a tour or stop at the Biddeford Mills Museum to get your bearings, then take a walk through downtown and the riverwalk (still in progress, at time of writing, but already lovely). From there, you can choose the beverage stop that best matches your mood. Maybe that means a classic brewery visit at Banded, a gluten-free pour at Lucky Pigeon, or a cocktail stop at Round Turn or Batson River.

Then come see us for pizza and a pint. We make a good meal stop because you can turn the visit into almost anything you want: a quick bite before more exploring, an easy family dinner, or a longer meal that lets the day slow down. If you are planning ahead, our community involvement page and our contact page can help you see what is happening while you are in town.

Why This Part of Maine Keeps Pulling People Back

What makes Biddeford stand out is not just its breweries, distillery, and good places to eat. What makes this city memorable is the way those experiences sit inside a larger story of reuse, preservation, and local momentum. The Biddeford mills still define the skyline and the street plan. Now they also help define how people gather.

That is what we love being part of. At Brickyard Hollow, we get to welcome people into a downtown that feels proud of where it came from and excited about where it is going. If you are planning a southern Maine food-and-drink day, Biddeford gives you a lot to work with. We would love to complete your Biddeford experience!
